Vintage Button Inspiration

My fiance bought me a jar of old buttons at a sale in an Ybor parking lot. I was so excited! They immediately had me thinking of a girl with button eyes. And here she is!  The ocean and the sail are linen that I painted and glued to the canvas. She is totally out of proportion, as is the entire painting, but I don't care. It's from my brain, yo.

Painting the Perfectly Imperfect....

I recently started a new painting! Yes, she's green... Yes, she's missing an arm and wearing a 50's style red dress. What's not to love? I used acrylic paint and two canvases so that they can be hung askew, another imperfection. To me there's something great about painting and drawing the imperfect. It reminds me that there is beauty in everyone and everything. Even a 50's zombie with one arm....

Yarn Is Everywhere!

I've decided to make purses this year for my sisters and mother. I should have found something a little quicker to make! These will be so cute though! The pattern shows you how to line them with fabric and add decorative flowers and/or buttons. I will post pictures of the finished products at the end of the month! So excited. I love making gifts. So...many....stitches.... http://bendbeanies.blogspot.com/2009/05/bag-pattern.html

Easy Warmth

Making hot chocolate from scratch is entirely too simple. Adding freshly made whipped cream is too! We make this all winter long. My little boys can't get enough of it! We also make a variation called Hot Vanilla which is just milk, vanilla and sugar. It's great also. Just heat your milk, add sugar, vanilla and cocoa powder (or not) to taste. The whipped cream is made from heavy whipping cream whipped with your mixer and then also add sugar and vanilla to taste. Simple. Amazing. And much, much better than hot chocolate mix!!

Long Lost Cousin......

Yesterday my sisters and I got to meet our cousin Stefanie for the first time! She is the daughter of my uncle Craig, who passed away. She is such a wonderful person! She is like a sister already, and fit in right away! It's amazing that life brings people to you when you need them the most. Just when you get to feeling low and lonely, life gives you a new friend. I'm blessed. [Katelyn, Me, Jade, Steffy]

Bows are cool.

I finished my newest project! A headband with a bow! There are two buttons that can be used to hook the headband as tight as needed. It will definitely keep your ears warm this winter and look great with any outfit. I recommend  this pattern; it is simple, quick, easy and very easy to shorten/lengthen to make different sizes. You could make it into a child size easily!-Chain long enough to fit the head, then do your rows of Single Crochet. Make the bow with less rows. Easy! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bow-headband-4

Dinosaur Head

I have begun crocheting hats for the winter. It's only October 7th and it is freezing! Here is my youngest son Bayne in his Stegosaurus Hat! I added my own version of the spikes (just simple DC and decrease each row) and used a red trim. It fits perfectly! I definitely recommend this pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dinosaurs-go-rawr
